Meet Tobe

I’ve decided to run for Whitestown Town Council because I want to give back to the community that has given so much to me. Whitestown has welcomed us with open arms and has allowed my wife, Nytarsha, to fulfill her own life-long dream of opening her own optometry office. We have been blessed with two beautiful children, Carter (6) and Parker (1). Throughout my professional journey as an engineer and as a pilot, I have  encountered challenges and triumphs, but every experience has taught me something valuable. When I'm not working, I enjoy spending time with my loved ones and pursuing my hobbies, such as soccer, learning new languages (FIVE!), and a new-found love of running.

I have always been animated by being of service to those around me. It is because I want to make Whitestown a better place for my family and for all of my neighbors that I have decided to run for this office. It is easy to close our eyes and point fingers at all the things that are wrong. No one would be upset if I chose to sit at home with my two little boys and my wife, not thinking about the issues or the world at large. But the fight has to be fought. And if not by me, then by whom? I can’t point at the problems we face as a town without offering solutions to fix them.

I learned the value of being a good leader during my time in college. I was actively involved in various extracurricular activities, including martial arts, soccer, track, engineering honor organizations, and numerous other clubs. I was Vice President of our local chapter of National Society of Black Engineers, as well an officer for our local chapter of the Society for Hispanic Professional Engineers. I helped facilitate numerous activities in these clubs and was was charged with bringing disparate visions together to accomplish a common goal.

I decided to expand my horizon by moving to Indianapolis as a pilot for Republic Airways, an Indianapolis based regional airline. Our move to Indiana brought us to Whitestown, and 7 years ago, the stability that Whitestown provided us allowed me to pursue my dream of becoming a pilot for a major airline when I became an Airbus captain for Frontier Airlines.

I am grateful for the opportunities life has brought my way, and I look forward to whatever challenges and adventures lie ahead.

Why vote for me?

As an expanding and growing community, we need a town council that’s reflective of our community. We have many new young families joining us every year, and I believe I reflect the future of Whitestown. My many years as a leader in aviation have equipped me with the skills necessary to bridge divides and to work collaboratively with those with disparate and competing interests while in service of a common goal.

Economic Issues

As a local business owner, I understand the issues facing business owners in Whitestown. With business owners facing rising occupancy costs and dropping customer retention, they need someone in their corner with their best interests at heart. Vacant commercial buildings have a detrimental effect of property values and are in no one‘s best interest.

Local Infrastructure

We need to increase our investment in local infrastructure. This enhances safety by reducing the risks of accidents and emergencies. Well maintained roads and reliable communication networks help emergency responders quickly address crises. It also boosts economic development, improves quality of life, and supports sustainability. Overall, improving local infrastructure is critical for creating a safe, prosperous, and sustainable community that supports the needs and aspirations of its residents. Furthermore, we need to decide for ourselves who we want to be, and not have the huge developers come and tell us what's best for us.

Growth

Whitestown is a growing community and like any other community, we face our own set of challenges and opportunities. These include maintenance, sustainable growth, managing traffic and infrastructure, and protecting the environment while addressing the needs of our residents and businesses. Our community is growing, and if our town council doesn’t address the needs and cares of our populace, but instead ignores our concerns, then it is incumbent upon us to demand accountable leadership.
